Company History
Louisiana Facility
LA Ash was founded in 1996 when the company was contracted to sell the petcoke combustion products from the Louisiana cogeneration facility in Lake Charles, LA. At the time, the facility operated the largest petcoke-fired CFB steam generators in the world. Each of the two 100 MW steam generators produced 825,000 pounds per hour of main steam at 1005 degrees F and 1625 psig, as well as 727,000 pounds of reheat steam.
Since entering into a contract to sell the fly and bed ash, LA Ash has sold over two million tons of fly and bed ash and processed and sold more than two million tons of the hydrated material now called OPF42.
Oklahoma Facility
LA Ash's ability to find markets for combustion products attracted the interest of Farrell Cooper, a coal supplier and ash marketer for AES's Shady Point power plant. Subsequently, they entered into a joint venture with LA Ash to market the products from this 320 MW coal-fired CFB steam generator located in Poteau, OK. LA Ash of Oklahoma started marketing coal-fired CFB products from this plant in 2000. LA Ash began using the products from this plant to supplement inventory from the Louisiana facility.
Georgia Pacific (Port Hudson Facility)
LA Ash in Georgia developed markets and sold both coal-fired and coke-fired CFB sorbent products for a plant that produced over 75,000 tons of material per year. During the first 4 years of operation, this plant tried to sell the material themselves, but did not sell a single ton. Within two years of signing a contract with LA Ash, the plant's entire production as well as four years of stockpiled material, were sold.
Florida Facility
LA Ash's most recent contract is with Jacksonville Electric Authority. In 2004, JEA signed an agreement with LA Ash to begin selling the plant's sorbent products, which were currently marketed under the trademarks EZSorb® and EZBase®.
LA Ash immediately began to compress three years of sales activity into a single year. We recently received Florida DEP approval to market the material in Florida and the DOT in Region 2 has approved EZBase® for soil stabilization. JEA and LA Ash are working closely with the Florida DOT to obtain approval to use this product as a base for highway projects. We currently have approval to use EZBase® as a stabilizer and dense coarse aggregate in Charlton County, GA and Nassau and Duval Counties in Florida.
